Enrollment

How it works

  1. Submit the inquiry form below. It is free.
  2. A HIMP team member contacts you about eligibility, funding and next steps.
  3. Complete the 2-week HIMP Core: online lessons plus hands-on practicals in Atlanta.
  4. Selected graduates enter the paid apprenticeship in handyman and building maintenance.
Cost & Funding

Earn while you learn.

Applying is free. The full HIMP program is priced at $10,000: $3,000 for the HIMP Core and $7,000 for the apprenticeship training that follows. Many participants pay little or nothing out of pocket.

Tuition can be covered through workforce grants, sponsors and other approved funding, and apprentices are paid for the hours they work. Under a written agreement explained before you enroll, a portion of what you earn can go toward the program cost.

Ask about funding when you submit your inquiry, or email info@thehimpprogram.org.

FAQs

Common questions

Do I need construction experience?
No. HIMP starts with the fundamentals.
What does it cost?
Applying is free. The full program is $10,000: $3,000 for the 2-week HIMP Core and $7,000 for the apprenticeship training. Grants, sponsors and an earn-while-you-learn agreement can cover some or all of it. Ask us what fits your situation.
Can I earn while I’m training?
Yes. Apprentices are paid employees. Wages start at 60% of the journeyworker rate and rise as work hours are completed. Class time is not paid work time.
How long does it take?
The Core is 2 weeks. The apprenticeship is based on 2,000 to 3,000 paid work hours and 380 hours of instruction (including the Core). Full-time apprentices typically finish in about 1 to 1.5 years, and part-time apprentices in about 2 years. You can choose full-time or part-time.
